Dragon Ride Wales 2008

Sunday 15th June 2008

16th May deadline for online entries looming - don't delay!

** The ride is currently over three quarters full and filling steadily, so don't delay - get your entry in soon as entries close on the 16th of May. **

Click the "Enter Here" icon at the top or bottom of the page, this will direct you to the British Cycling online entry system. Alternatively you can enter directly from BC's "Everyday Cycling" site.

You will be able to enter a friend or team of riders. Please ensure that you register other riders with Everyday Cycling first. You will not be able to complete the entry process without their details being recorded.

Please note we must have a postal address for all riders, as the entry packs are posted out a few weeks before the ride. So please fill in the contact details of all of those you enter. If we don't have an address, riders may have to collect their numbers and timing chip on the morning of the ride, which could result in a delayed start.

The embedded Everyday Cycling Online Entry System is fully secure using financial online security provided by Secpay.

Welcome to the new Dragon Ride web site. We have taken on board your comments and made this new site easier to read and navigate. Our online entry facility using British Cycling system should be much easier to follow compared to our old version.

5th Dragon Ride Wales 2008

The Dragon Ride cyclosportive is a circular, 120 or 180km non competitive road cycle challenge ride over the hills and valleys of South Wales. The Dragon Ride was one of the first annual cyclosportives to be held in the UK and the first to gain a place on the UCI calendar, 2008 is the fifth occasion this event has been held.

Promoted and organised by BreakAway Cycling.

The event is intended for experienced cyclists, unlike shorter charity rides this is not a leisure ride and should only be attempted by reasonably fit and competent riders. The event takes place 3/4 weeks before the Tour of France Etape participation ride; the Dragon Ride offers the only compatible climbs in the southern UK, ideal as training for the Etape.

The 2008 route is a more intensified version of 07 course, with a new start/finish venue at Pencoed College, this avoids the lengthy run out through Port Talbot and all the traffic lights on the return to Bridgend. Still included are two ascent of the Bwlch mountain road, however this year they are in different directions.

Ride distances are 180km (Gran Fondo) and 120km for the Medio Fondo.
