Although English remains the country’s most spoken language, the Welsh language has a steadfast place in the country’s culture and history. In fact, according to the Annual Population Survey (April 2020 to March 2021), approximately 30% of the population of Wales aged 3+ can speak Welsh.

Whilst everyone is pretty much fluent in English, making the effort to speak in Welsh will bring you both appreciation and encouragement from the locals you talk to. People always do sincerely appreciate the effort when you try to speak their native language.

Therefore we have put together a list of what we consider to be the most important basic phrases that will help you get around the Brecon Beacons. We can’t promise that it will make you fluent but we hope it helps!
