The Throne of Stone Awaits… Who will be Crowned King and Queen of the Mountain at the Dragon Ride 2023?

The Dragon Ride has a big reputation for hills. In fact, you could say its infamous for them. Each year, our tough-as-nails participants in the Macmillan 100, Medio Fondo, Grand Fondo and Devil event take on 3-10 climbs in the stunning Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons). The ‘smallest’ overall climbing is 1314m, with riders battling it out on the Devil racking up 4614m.

There is, however, ‘One Hill to Rule Them All’ across three of the four routes. Veteran challenge-seekers will know this beast as the ‘Devil’s Elbow’. This 1.8 km, 10.3% incline lives up to its name for its sharp incline and weapon-like ability to dig deep into your strength (don’t let it! Make sure to train for this hill). It is here that the sportive recognizes two outstanding participants in the event whose efforts will go down in Dragon Ride lore: the King and Queen of the Mountain.

The King and Queen on the mountain titles are awarded to the male and female participant who grind out the fastest climb on the Devils Elbow. Every riders who climbs the Devils Elbow will receive a timed result, on this close road part of the course, but only the fastest will nab the legendary King and Queen of the Mountain titles.

The winners will also receive engraved ‘Dragon Slayer’ pint glasses from our event partner Erdinger beer, plus another exciting prize to be announced soon.

Could you become King or Queen of the Mountain 2023?
