Crowning our King and Queen of the Mountain

The Dragon Ride has solidified its position as one of the oldest, toughest and most legendary of British cycling sportives, and whilst everyone who takes on the Dragon Ride is a hero, for every edition of the Dragon Ride we recognise two special riders to crown a King and Queen of the Mountain.

The King and Queen are crowned based on having the fastest time climbing the infamous Devil’s Elbow. Apart from the fact it appears on three of the four routes, it’s no wonder the Devil’s Elbow was picked for the ‘timed climb’ competition as its vicious slopes epitomise the harsh beauty of hidden Wales. Providing one of the most beautiful stretches of rugged scenery, this climb represents the harshest challenge of the whole ride. Therefore it is only right that the fastest male and female cyclist up the climb receive the King and Queen of the Mountain accolade!

As well as the prestigious honour that this title awards… the King and Queen of the Mountain for 2022 will also receive an engraved commemorative pint glass from Dragon Ride sponsors Erdinger Alkoholfrei, and a £50 gift voucher from Dragon Ride merchandise suppliers Scimitar to use against any Dragon Ride merchandise from our online shop.
