Top Moments from 2026 Dragon Ride
The Dragon roared once again today as thousands of cyclists gathered in South Wales for a day of epic riding, unforgettable achievements and plenty of memorable moments both on and off the bike.
Here is a round-up of the day’s most memorable moments:
A New Perspective on a Classic Challenge

More than 4,800 cyclists descended on Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) to take on the 2026 Dragon Ride, facing a unique challenge as the event’s legendary routes were ridden in reverse for the very first time.
From determined first-timers to seasoned Dragon Slayers, riders were pushed to their limits as familiar roads revealed a completely different side of the Dragon. Iconic climbs took on a new character, creating fresh challenges, unforgettable moments and a brand-new experience for all who took part.
Battle on the Devil’s Elbow
One of the day’s fiercest contests unfolded on the Devil’s Elbow timed section, where riders battled for the coveted King and Queen of the Mountain titles.
Awarded to the fastest male and female climbers, the KOM and QOM crowns recognise the strongest performances on this brutal 1.8km ascent, which boasts an unforgiving average gradient of 10.3%.
This year’s champions were:
🔥 King of the Mountain: Adam Townsend – 00:05:17
🔥 Queen of the Mountain: Elizabeth Cave – 00:07:21
Both riders delivered outstanding performances to conquer the climb, earn the prestigious titles and take home an ERDINGER Alkoholfrei prize bundle.
Powered by Potatoes

While the routes may have changed, one much-loved Dragon Ride tradition remained firmly in place.
Thousands of riders refuelled throughout the day on the event’s famous salty potatoes, a feed station staple that has become almost as legendary as the ride itself. Simple, effective and eagerly anticipated, they once again helped fuel riders on their journey to the finish line.
More Than a Cycling Event
Dragon Ride is about more than miles and mountains. Once again, the event showcased the incredible spirit and generosity of its community.
Participants, supporters and volunteers came together to raise more than £160,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, helping to provide vital support to people living with cancer and their families.
A Finish Line Worth Fighting For
After hours of climbing, descending and digging deep, riders were rewarded with an unforgettable finish-line experience.
Friends, family members and fellow cyclists lined the finish area to cheer participants home, celebrating every rider who crossed the line, earned their Dragon Ride medal and conquered one of the UK’s most iconic cycling challenges.
What’s Next?
The Dragon Ride returns on 13 June 2027, when riders will once again have the opportunity to test themselves on the legendary roads of South Wales and write their own chapter in Dragon Ride history.
