TOP TIPS FOR EVENT WEEK

The final countdown is on! After months of training, your epic challenge is just around the corner. To ensure you have a smooth, successful, and unforgettable day conquering the Dragon, we’ve put together our top tips for event week.

  1. READ THE ROADBOOK

This is your essential pre-ride reading. The guide is packed with critical information, from your specific start time to route-split locations and more. A quick read-through will answer most of your questions and ensure you can focus on the ride, not the logistics.

  1. FINAL BIKE & KIT CHECKS

Don’t leave a mechanical issue to chance. Give your bike a final check-up: brakes, gears, tyre pressure, and a lubricated chain are essential. For your kit, think in layers. The Welsh weather can be unpredictable, and what starts as a chilly morning in the valleys can become a warm effort on the climbs.

  1. PACE YOURSELF

Dragon Ride is known as the UK’s toughest sportive for a reason. It’s tempting to go out hard with the buzz of thousands of other riders, but be warned: the most formidable climbs await you later in the day. Conserve your energy, ride at your own pace, and remember to fuel consistently at feed stations. This ride is a test of endurance.

  1. PLAN YOUR JOURNEY & ARRIVAL

The stunning, quiet roads of the Welsh countryside are a huge part of the Dragon Ride experience. To ensure a stress-free start, plan your travel and parking in advance. Check the Roadbook and our travel page for detailed travel information and know your start time before you set off. A calm arrival is much better than a last-minute dash to the start pen!

  1. REST, FUEL, AND GET EXCITED!

The hard work is done. This week is about tapering your training, getting good sleep, and focusing on nutrition and hydration. Take a deep breath, trust in your training, and soak in the excitement. You are about to take on a legendary bucket-list ride.

We can’t wait to see you on the start line on Sunday, for what will be a truly memorable day of riding.
